Hollywood and Human Rights:
Briefing Series for Television and Screen Writers
The Young Advocates work to promote public education of human rights issues in the media by educating writers through these special interactive events with experts from the field. Past briefings have focused on issues ranging from violence against women and girls in Afghanistan to juvenile justice in Los Angeles.

Monitoring Immigration Facilities
For over five years, the Young Advocates have made regular visits to the San Pedro Service Processing Facility now under the direction of the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. YAs tour the facility and interview staff and detainees in order to make recommendations on how the facility can better adhere to established standards of confinement. In the summer of 2004, the Young Advocates will be leading a task force that will address immigration issues at facilities throughout the United States.

"Living Room Series" Special Speaker Events
The Young Advocates host regular speaker events featuring human rights experts on a number of issues. Living Room Series events are usually held in private homes or conference rooms. Speakers address issues such as the USA Patriot Act, human rights and the War on Drugs in Colombia, child labor in El Salvador, International Justice including special tribunals and the International Criminal Court, and many more.

Monthly Young Advocates Happy Hour
Young Advocates host a monthly happy hour at alternating locations. Happy hours provide a great time to mingle with fellow Young Advocates and introduce new members to the group in a social setting.
